Just how many treats can you make in 64,000 sf? Let’s be honest—how many of you are thinking cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pastries, and the like? Team SAA was chosen to assist Federal Bakers in their conversion of a shell warehouse building (currently under construction) to a state-of-the-art, high-tech baking plant. Federal Bakers is a major supplier of the goodies many of us enjoy with our custom coffee at Starbucks Coffee. Betcha didn’t know that baked goods are mixed, baked, flash-frozen, and then packed for shipping all with a truly incredible display of automation. The finished products are stored and cooled in a large freezer before being air shipped to coffee shop destinations everywhere on the globe including Japan! Overhead conveyor units move products around the building overhead. Hi-tech sensors screen goods for contamination. Something to think about while you’re enjoying your coffee, scones, muffins and cookies at Starbucks.
