MCI Worldcom
Washington, DC
How many times have we heard the adage in real estate that it’s “Location, Location, Location”? Well, MCI W orldCom, one of the big boys on the block, agrees. When MCI WorldCom had a need for a special switching facility in Washington, D.C. with the right address, and the right power and telecommunication requirements, they found an existing building on the site; a hard start in some cases. However there was just one catch: the building MCI WorldCom selected was built circa 1908. No as-built drawings and no modern fire protection or exits were in place. Converting a 250,000 square foot, ninety-year-old building into a state-of-the art, 21st century, leading edge telecommunication marvel was a significant and rewarding task for Stephens Architectural Associates!
